The Bray Family: Method and Theory in Art

Kristen's brother, Justin and brother-in-law, David just opened up a new art show at the Main Gallery in downtown Las Vegas. The show is called Method and Theory. Our family had a great time going to the opening reception last Friday night.

David is a wildlife biologist who bought empty bomb containers from the U.S. Military that had been used to transport smart bombs to Iraq. He converted these boxes into aquaculture tanks for research and breeding of the native species of fishes that he is trying to save from extinction. David's contribution to the show consisted of installations of a raw military bomb box and a converted aquaculture tank filled with endangered fish. It also included pictures and information about the plight of native fish in the southwest, as well as pictures that included rows of discarded bomb boxes from the war and rows and rows of military war heads.

Justin created an impressive glass sculpture made out of discarded florescent light bulbs with a Tesla coil mounted in the center. The effect is very exciting; full of motion, light, and fire! Unfortunately, Justin's installation had a pretty major glitch right before opening, but it will hopefully be fixed soon. The Tesla coil burnt out and he couldn't get it repaired in time for the opening reception. It was a total bummer, but everything should be working in full very soon.

Overall, the opening reception of the show turned out great! Three cheers for Justin and David! If you happen to be in Vegas before Dec. 5, be sure to check it out!
